TRIBAL YOUTH NETWORK PROGRAMME

Tribal youth network a farmers club started by Krishi Vigyan Kendra to empower the tribal youth on various agricultural and allied activities. The motto behind the formation of the clubs is to stimulate entrepreneurs among them by providing short and long duration skill development training programmes. Also they act as a para extension workers in the villages especially in remote areas.

Impact of Tribal Youth Network

Before the training majority of the tribal youth had lower level of knowledge on agriculture and other self employment & small scale income generating activities followed by medium and no one in higher level of knowledge. Whereas, after the training majority of the tribal youth had medium level of knowledge about collecting agricultural information through ICTs such as mobile and internet. They also developed the knowledge on mushroom cultivation, candle making, preparation of organic material et.,

The Concept of Farm science clubs as innovative method of Extension

 

Farm science clubs

Farm science clubs is an another farmer oriented club run by 25- 30 college students under the guidance scientists Krishi Vigyan Kendra. All the students are tribal. The activities of the club are to disseminate the technical information provided by the scientists to farmers in the villages where the students are.

 

 

Objectives:

  • To fasten the process of transfer of Technology to the remote unreached farmers by utilizing the members of science clubs
  • To educate the students in the rural schools and colleges on agricultural sciences to improve the crop productivity
  • To create interest among the rural students / youth towards agriculture and allied subjects

 

 

Activities of Science club:

The activities of the Science club includes fortnightly interaction meetings, guest lectures, field visit by the students to the KVK, organization of study groups in the schools / colleges and other activities like organization of quiz programme, distribution of information material, organization of extracurricular activities to motivate the students etc.

Impact of Farm Science Club

Out of college students, before the training majority of the them had low level of knowledge of improved methods in agriculture. Whereas, after the training majority of the them had medium to higher level of knowledge on seed treatment Integrated Crop Management Practices, liquid bio fertilizers, soil testing and its procedures, practices followed by lower level of knowledge. Out of the students 32 per cent of them had told that they pass the information often to their farmer parents and along with neighboring farmers . Whereas 42 per cent of the students informed that they seldom pass the information to their farmer parent and 26 per cent told that they had less opportunities to inform.
